Atop The Ferris Wheel

As my seat rises to the top of the Ferris wheel, I am wowed by the lights and moving parts far below. I feel simultaneously grandiose and insignificant. Up high, I can see so much that seems oblivious to me on the ground. I’m above the city, feeling larger than life, AND realizing that down below, I’m simply one of those ants marching through the colony.

At street level, my awareness narrows to what’s directly in front of and beside me. I get lost in weeds, particles, all the little thoughts bumping against me.

Atop the Ferris wheel, I soon feel huge, like an all-knowing puppet master!  I see the edges of the city and all its moving parts. I notice people intertwining, traversing streets end to end. I am suddenly aware of the unconscious cooperation necessary for pedestrian traffic to flow. I also notice where streets intersect, and where they run parallel. I see the tops of buildings, their full facades, roofs and angles, instead of just front doors. I see how many floors people must climb to reach rooftops.

Up high, I feel expansive and empowered; a sense of peace envelopes me. A challenge that had seemed overwhelming becomes somehow different. I capture a bigger sense, a clearer view, of where I am in relation to this circumstance, and I feel - suddenly - complete and capable. I know that I will be okay. I shift to: “I’ve got this.” No kidding. Independent of the outcome, I realize that this situation is a gift for my growth and expansion.

If you are struggling with a situation, circumstance, or relationship (and who is not), I invite you to stop your life’s Ferris wheel at the top and look around. See what is visible to you from this vantage point that you didn’t notice on the ground, in the weeds.

Allow the expansive vista to reveal, to teach, to connect you to what really matters.

Enjoy the ride!
